Why American oak

The real thing. Not an imitation.

Handcrafted

Real oak, nothing in between.

Unlike imitation barrels, ours aren't lined with plastic, foil or bladders. Your spirit touches select American white oak, so it picks up colour and flavour in a few weeks.

  1. American white oak

    Handmade from select staves.

  2. Medium char

Flamed inside for smooth flavour in just a few weeks.

  3. Black steel hoops

Painted black for a clean, classic look.

  4. Made to reuse

Fill it again and again to refine your own flavour.

The details

Oak, engraving and returns.

Why oak?

Oak breathes. Through the grain, a little oxygen reaches the liquid while vanillin, lactones and soft tannins move the other way. The result is more depth and fewer hard edges. Every Booze & Barrels barrel is American white oak with a medium char.

Returns

Plain barrels have a 60-day refund or exchange window, which leaves time for curing. Engraved barrels are made for you, so they can't be returned unless faulty: email support@boozebarrels.com.au with clear photos. Weeping during curing is normal, not a fault.

What happens next

From order to first pour.

No surprises between checkout and the day you fill it. Plain barrels ship promptly; engraved ones follow once the engraving is done.

How long until my spirit is ready?

It depends on the spirit and the size. Smaller barrels work fastest because more of the spirit touches the oak, and many people start tasting after a few weeks. Taste weekly and pour it when it suits you.
